Valneva: Specialty vaccine company Valneva announced that the first participant has been vaccinated in the Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating the safety and Immunogenicity in children of two different dose levels of Valneva’s single-shot chikungunya vaccine. Juan Carlos Jaramillo, Chief Medical Officer of Valneva, said, “This pediatric trial is extremely important. Given the significant threat that chikungunya poses to individuals living in or traveling to endemic areas, it is crucial to make the vaccine accessible to all age groups. By doing so, we can broaden the protection against and reduce the impact of this debilitating disease.” There is currently no approved chikungunya vaccine for children and Valneva’s vaccine IXCHIQ® is currently the only licensed chikungunya vaccine to address this unmet medical need in adults aged 18 years and older who are at increased risk of exposure to the virus. Once available, the Phase 2 pediatric data are intended to support a Phase 3 pivotal study in children with the objective to extend the label in this age group following initial regulatory approvals in adults and possibly in adolescents.

Andritz: International technology group Andritz has retrofitted two selective catalytic reduction systems (SCR) at the Leverkusen Chemical Park, Germany, significantly contributing to the park’s rapid revitalization after a devastating explosion in 2021. After the incident, which led to the shutdown of all four lines of the hazardous waste treatment plant, Currenta GmbH & Co OHG, the operator of the chemical park, commissioned Andritz to retrofit the severly damaged SCR II. However, unexpected corrosion damages at the SCR I unit made it necessary to put this unit out of service as well. Andritz proposed a concept that minimized downtime and allowed for the earliest possible restart of both units.

Frequentis: Frequentis Defense has successfully completed trials of its fixed and deployable digital tower for the United States Department of Defense (DoD). Trials took place at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida; Moody Air Force Base, Georgia; and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas to prove the operational feasibility and benefits of the system for military personnel. "We think the future is bright for the remote digital tower. We continue to do assessments of this technology; we continue to be impressed with it. We do believe it has benefits, particularly where we don’t have to put the controllers in the tower, keeping them out of harms way,” noted Ed Wright, Executive Director, Headquarters US Air Force Flight Standards Agency, US DoD.
