Agrana: The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has concluded its audit of fruit, starch and sugar group Agrana's climate goals and officially confirmed that these are in line with the 1.5°C target defined by the Paris Climate Agreement. This means that we are the first food producer in Austria to have validated emission-reduction targets. On the basis of our science-based targets, we will cut greenhouse gas emissions along the entire value chain (Scope 1+2+3) by more than 30 percent and emissions associated with our own production activities (Scope 1+2) compared to 2019|20 by half by 2030|31. In addition, we will also reduce our production-related emissions to net zero by 2040 and those along the entire value chain to net zero by 2050”, stresses Norbert Harringer, the board member responsible for raw materials, operations and sustainability at Agrana. The volume of investments in efforts to reduce Scope 1+2 emissions in the period to 2040 will, from today’s perspective, be around € 470 million.

voestalpine: greentec steel is the voestalpine Group’s ambitious and feasible phased plan for green steel production. In a first step, one electric arc furnace will be constructed at each of the Linz and Donawitz sites. Converting to this technology allows the steel and technology Group to reduce its emissions by around 30%, representing annual savings of almost 4 million tons of CO2. The investment volume is around EUR 1.5 billion. This traditional groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of construction at the Donawitz site. Construction of the electric arc furnace (EAF) in Donawitz starts in 2024, with the EAF scheduled for commissioning three years later. Once fully operational, the EAF will produce around 850,000 tons of CO2-reduced steel annually. In contrast to the former LD (Linz-Donawitz) process, which uses coal and coke as a reducing agent, the EAF can be operated without the use of fossil fuels. The EAF uses scrap, liquid pig iron, and HBI (hot briquetted iron), with the mix adjusted according to the specific quality requirements.

Frequentis: Frequentis,a global supplier of communication and information systems for control centres with safety-critical tasks, provided Avinor, the Norwegian Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP), with network solution for efficient airspace management. The Frequentis Advanced-NMS solution will enable Avinor to monitor their growing and complex countrywide infrastructure from one centralised tool, as well as enable fast, proactive, and effective responses to unplanned outages and emergency situations. It will also provide real-time performance monitoring of the quality of each system and will strengthen the overall security of Avinor’s operations. Thanks to the solution’s scalability, it can grow hand in hand with the development of their environment, enabling its use for decades to come. Frequentis and Avinor have worked on numerous projects together since 2012, including the provision of an uncrewed traffic management (UTM) system to support Norway in its drone strategy, and voice communication systems (VCS) for multiple tower renewals, as well as a major oil field in the North Sea. Most recently Avinor selected Frequentis’ multi-redundant X10 VCS for the control centres in Royken, Stavanger, and optionally Bodo, to create true location-independence for ATM operations.
