21st Austria weekly - Uniqa, Vienna Airport, Valneva (20/05/2021)

23.05.2021

Uniqa: Uniqa Insurance Groups (Uniqa) premiums written increased by 13.0 per cent to Euro 1,782.7 mn in the first quarter of 2021. Premiums written by the Uniqa Austria segment increased by 1.3 per cent to Euro 1,152.0 million in the first quarter of 2021. In the Uniqa International segment, premiums written increased by 46.7 per cent to Euro 627.0 mn due to the first-time consolidation of the AXA companies. This growth in premiums in the first quarter of 2021 contrasts with a significantly lower increase in the total amount of retained insurance benefits of the Uniqa Group of 7.7 per cent to Euro 1,024.2 mn. The combined ratio after reinsurance improved to 90.9 per cent as a result of a lower claim frequency, particularly in vehicle insurance. Consolidated net profit (net profit for the period attributable to the shareholders of Uniqa Insurance Group AG) rose to Euro 89.4 mn (January to March 2020: Euro -13.2 mn).  “The Group’s successful business performance in the first three months of the year shows that we are on the right track with our Uniqa 3.0 strategy programme. We have clearly achieved our growth targets with an increase of 13 per cent in premiums written, while at the same time maintaining a solid cost ratio. We are also benefiting from our underwriting discipline, from less weather damage than in recent years and, of course, from the recovery on the stock markets. We are therefore very confident that we will achieve our plans for the 2021 financial year, which include an EBT figure on par with 2018,” said CEO Andreas Brandstetter.
Uniqa: weekly performance: 2.86%

Vienna Airport (Flughafen Wien): Revenue of the Flughafen Wien Group in Q1/2021 decreased by 64.4% to Euro 57.5 mn. EBITDA declined by 95.9% to Euro 2.4 mn, and EBIT fell to minus Euro 30.9 mn. The net profit for the period before non-controlling interests in Q1/2021 equalled minus Euro 25.0 mn. “The dramatic figures underline the fact that the aviation sector urgently requires a continuation of the coronavirus short-time work programme. This is the only way to prevent massive layoffs from taking place. Bookings are increasing, but flight traffic and tourism have not turned the corner yet”, states Günther Ofner, Member of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG, commenting on the quarterly performance figures. “Anyone who wants to fly should book now before air fares rise again. Whoever is vaccinated, tested or has recovered can travel again and should also seize this opportunity. In this regard, the Green Pass is the key to regaining the freedom to travel”, Günther Ofner adds. From January to March 2021, the Flughafen Wien Group including the foreign strategic investments in Malta Airport and Kosice Airport reported a drop in the number of passengers handled by 88.7% year-on-year to a total of 677,348 passengers. From today’s vantage point, the first half year of 2021 will continue to show a weak development, the company stated. However, a significant increase in passenger volumes is anticipated starting in the summer and during the second half of 2021. A total of 12.5 million travellers is expected at Vienna Airport and about 15.9 million passengers for the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport and the strategic foreign investments) in the year 2021.
Flughafen Wien: weekly performance: 0.81%

Valneva: Austrian/French specialty vaccine company Valneva’s total revenues were Euro 23.2 mn in the first quarter of 2021 compared to Euro 35.2 mn in the first quarter of 2020. EBITDA loss in the first quarter of 2021 was Euro 28.3 mn compared to an EBITDA profit of Euro 2.4 mn in the first quarter of 2020. In the first quarter of 2021, Valneva generated a net loss amounting to Euro 27.7 mn compared to a net loss of Euro 1.2 mn in the first quarter of 2020. Research and development investments continued to increase as planned in the first quarter of 2021, growing to Euro 27.7 mn compared to Euro 13.3 mn in the first quarter of 2020. This was mainly driven by investments in Valneva’s Covid-19 vaccine VLA2001 as well as Phase 3 clinical study costs for Valneva’s chikungunya vaccine program VLA1553. Thomas Lingelbach, Valneva’s Chief Executive Officer, commented, “Valneva continues to achieve significant R&D milestones thanks to the huge efforts of our team and our partners. Our recent successful Nasdaq listing marks a significant strategic step for Valneva as we look forward. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our existing and new shareholders, partners and employees for their support and contribution to our journey. We are now in a strong position to continue to execute our key programs and continue to build shareholder value.”
