21st Austria weekly - Verbund, Valneva, Amag (01/08/2019)

04.08.2019

Verbund: Developments in the energy market continued to be favourable for Austrian utility company Verbund in the first half of 2019. In particular, a sharp increase in the cost of CO2 certificates raised wholesale prices for electricity, compensating for declining prices for the primary energy sources of coal and gas.  EBITDA climbed by as much as 36.2% to Euro 685.9 mn. The reported Group result was up 48.7% to Euro 338.2 mn, while the Group result after adjustment for non-recurring effects rose by 53.1% to Euro 340.3 mn. Based on the strong business performance in the first half of 2019, the company is raising its earnings forecast for the year as a whole. Assuming an average water supply and an average wind supply in the second half of the year, and in light of the opportunities and risks identified, Verbund expects EBITDA to amount to between approximately Euro 1,180 mn and Euro 1,250 mn and the Group result to between approximately Euro 530 mn and Euro 580 mn in financial year 2019.
Verbund: weekly performance: 4.33%

Valneva: Austrian/french biotec company Valneva’s total revenues for the first half of 2019 include an effect relating to the GSK SAA termination in June 2019. A negative effect of net 10.7 mn was included in Valneva’s revenues from collaboration and licensing reflecting both the current and future payment obligations related to the termination of the SAA. Valneva’s total revenues (on an AER basis) in the first half of 2019 were Euro 54.5 mn (Euro 65.2 mn excluding the GSK SAA termination effect) compared to Euro 59.0 mn in the first half of 2018. The company realized an operating loss of Euro 1.7 mn (operating profit of Euro 9.0 mn excluding the GSK SAA termination effect) in the first half of 2019 compared to an operating profit of Euro 2.3 mn in the comparator period of 2018. EBITDA in the first half of 2019 was Euro 2.4 mn (Euro 13.1 mn excluding the GSK SAA termination effect), compared to an EBITDA of Euro 5.8 n in the first half of 2018. In the first half of 2019, Valneva generated a net loss amounting to Euro 2.4 mn (net profit of Euro 8.3 mn excluding the GSK SAA termination effect) compared to a net loss of Euro 0.2 mn in the first half of 2018.
Valneva: weekly performance: -1.94%

AMAG: The AMAG Group increased its shipment volumes, in particular thanks to the ramp-up of the new plants in the Rolling Division. Total shipments (including intragroup deliveries) rose significantly from 204,700 tonnes to 226,000 tonnes compared with the first half of the previous year. The external shipment volume of the AMAG Group increased by 6.9 % to 208,200 tonnes. This volume increase also enabled revenues to rise despite the lower average price of aluminium. The revenue of the AMAG Group in the first half of the year amounted to Euro 554.6 min (2018 equivalent period: Euro 539.5 mn). In the first half of 2019, AMAG recorded earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of Euro 72.0 mn (H1 2018: Euro 86.2 mn). For the 2019 financial year, the Management Board expects the EBITDA of the AMAG Group to be recorded in a range between Euro 125 mn and Euro 150 mn (2018: Euro 141.0 mn).
