Statistics Austria: In the first nine months of 2018, turnover of Austrian service enterprises increased by 5.5% in nominal terms compared to the same period of the year before, as Statistics Austria reports. In the period January to September 2018, turnover in trade increased by 3.9% in nominal terms. Taking inflation into account, sales in trade rose by 1.6%.

Statistics Austria: The vegetable production decreased in 2018 to 562 700 tons (t), as Statistics Austria reports. This is a decline by 6% compared to 2017 and by 8% related to the average production of the last five years. These losses were mainly caused by poor climatic conditions in early spring as well as dryness and heat in summer. Compared to 2017, the harvest of root, tuber and bulb vegetables including pulses decreased by 8% to 280 300 t. Onions, the main vegetable product of Austria, reached only 132 200 t (-9% to 2017) due to dryness and area reduction. Carrots yielded 93 800 t and thus also remained below the harvest of 2017 (-4%). The production of leafy and stalked vegetables – including brassicas – decreased by 10% to 121 300 t and therefore remained once again significantly under the five-year average (-16%). The main products were salads with 39 500 t (-16% to 2017) and cabbage with 30 100 t (-21% to 2017). The harvest of vegetables cultivated for fruit, however, showed a positive trend and increased slightly by 2% to 161 100. Thus, they lay by 6% above the five-year average.
