09.07 14:10 Celovec | TR2016 Trends in Europe and America	AT&S — the foundation the chips are built on  This Austrian company makes the high-end IC substrates and circuit boards that AI processors are mounted on, the unglamorous but essential layer between silicon and system. It began high-volume production at a new plant in Kulim, Malaysia, and makes substrates for AMD, with a second major customer now signed. It is committing up to two billion euros to expand substrate capacity in Malaysia and China, and has raised its revenue-growth outlook for the coming year to roughly 45 to 55%. It is also pushing into glass-core substrates for AI, high-performance computing and photonics, the next step in advanced packaging. Why we own it: it ranked second on our screen and it is the European pure-play on the packaging bottleneck. Every AI chip needs a substrate to sit on, and very few companies can make them at the top end. AT&S is one of them, and the only euro-quoted name in the batch.
