ams: Stock listed ams, a worldwide supplier of high-performance sensor solutions, Qingdao iESLab Electronic Co., Ltd., a pre-eminent end-to-end supplier of smart municipal works, and water utility company Jiangxi Water Group Co., Ltd., announced plans to extend their China Water Utilities’ Platform, an industrial alliance founded to promote the benefits of ultrasonic water metering and NB-IoT technologies based on Ali Cloud. With the launch of the new Jiangxi Water Utility’s Technical Lab in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, the partners will further support China utilities companies with leading-edge demonstrations of the “big data dividend” of ultrasonic water metering. Stefan Raible, Engineering Fellow at ams, says: “China’s strategic investment in advanced ultrasonic metering technology will provide far-reaching benefits to consumers, operators and the environment. Like all innovative technologies, ultrasonic meters require training and expertise to facilitate rapid adoption. We expect the Jiangxi Water Utility’s Technical Lab to make a huge con-tribution to the implementation in Greater China.”

Trade statistics: In 2018, total imports amounted to Euro 156.06 bn and total exports added up to Euro 150.1 bn, according to final results by Statistics Austria. Compared to 2017, Austrian imports increased by 5.8% and Austrian exports rose by 5.7%. The global foreign trade balance showed a deficit of €5.99 bn. Working-day adjusted, the rates of increase were 5.7% for imports and 5.5% for exports.

Construction: A total of 65 889 enterprises in the entire industry and construction sector (+0.6% compared to the previous year) turned over Euro 73.9 bn (+7.9%) in the first quarter of 2019, according to calculations by Statistics Austria. Working-day adjusted, the turnover for industry and construction increased by 9.0%. These figures coupled with increasing employment (975 706 persons, +3.2%). At establishment level (66 466 establishments, +0.6%), production sold increased by 7.7% (working-day adjusted: +8.8%) in comparison to previous year's level and amounted to €73.1 bn in nominal terms (employing 974 913 persons, +3.3%). Industrial production sold increased by 7.2%. 35 985 Austrian construction establishments (+0.9%) achieved a production sold of €9.5 bn in the first quarter of 2019. This corresponds to an increase of 11.2% in nominal terms (working-day adjusted: +12.4%) compared to the previous year. At the end of March 2019, Austrian construction companies (not including construction auxiliary trades) had orders booked totalling about €16.9 bn (+16.1%year-over-year).
